“É certo que as desavenças em torno da fé também atendiam aos objetivos do poder político e das classes dirigentes, mas a verdade é que isto só se torna possível porque os indivíduos internalizam a aversão e o ódio ao outro, ao que pensa ou manifesta sua fé de maneira diferente da dele. A intolerância está enraizada em nosso ser, introjetada em nossa mente. Ela se manifesta tanto nas grandes questões que envolvem disputas políticas e territoriais, mas também em nossos costumes e na forma como encaramos o diferente.”

 

"It is certain that disagreements regarding faith also met the objectives of political power and ruling classes, but the truth is that this only becomes possible because individuals internalize aversion and hatred to the other, to those who think or manifest their faith in a different way from their own. Intolerance is rooted in our beings, introjected in our minds. It manifests itself either in major issues that involve political and territorial disputes, but also in our customs and in the way we face the different."
